This is most likely a question directed specifically to Sultan, but I figured it would be a good "public" question, since it's possible others have run across this. Is it possible to create folders in the download section of ed.com? Also, is there a specific purpose or intent on what the downloads section is supposed to be for? Is it only for "finished" products, or can pretty much anything related to ED be uploaded there?

With the new Resident Evil project, I was hoping to be able to share files using ED.com. so many of the files will be test decks, images and other misc. files that need to be shared during the course of the project, and then at the end, the final product would be uploaded there. If need be, I can simply add "REED" to the beginning of every file name, so at least in the file list, they will all be grouped together. But, creating folders would be an easy way to organize them better. Is this a possibility? Even something as basic as the old yahoo groups files section organization would be doable. And is this an appropriate thing to upload at ED.com?

I can always upload files to my fileden account, but over the summer as I go through and make updates and edits to all my old stuff, I'm hoping to move them over to ED.com, and I'd like to get rid of the fileden account altogether eventually. So, this issue pertains to more than just REED.

Yes, but currently the software only allows those with admin permissions to create folders, and since admin permission also allows one to completely destroy the website, no one is getting that. I'm also resistant to creating folders on an as-needed basis, for various reasons, but should there arrive a point in which there is enough content to require reorganization, I'll address the issue at that time.

Although the filespace is unlimited, I'm not interested in hosting work files, test files, or anything by Sandora. That being said, I'm not policing what's being uploaded too strictly, and as long as those temporary files don't become permanent, there are [currently] no restrictions on uploads.

Addressed above.

Addressed above, but let me reiterate that I'm not interested in hosting people's work files on a permanent basis.

Sounds good. I'll continue to use Fileden for most of my "unfinished" files. I figured as much, since the folders are titled "Ready for Printing" and the like. It might be worth including a little disclaimer somewhere on the upload page spelling these policies out.

'nother question about uploading...is there a file size limitation? Since I've been working on Hi-Res versions lately, the resultant PDF filesizes are about 4-5 times as large as they used to be (300DPI verus 75 will do that). In other words what used to be a 1-2MB PDF for a deck, is now around 8MB. I will be using the Hi-Res versions for my own printing, but if those filesizes seem like they would be too large with upwards of 20 decks that would eventually be uploaded, then I'll compress the images and release lower-res versions for everyone else.

Just let me know.

Also, if anyone that actually would download my decks cares about filesize (ie, is 8MB too big, does anyone still use dial-up to where this would matter?)...feel free to chime in.

What programs are you using to create these files? You should be able to compress the PDF such that you get 2-3 meg files even at a higher DPI.

I haven't imposed one, if that's what you're asking. If you find that you're having trouble uploading files of a certain size, I can snoop around and see if there's something I can do to alleviate your trouble.

EDIT: But yeah, Rich is right; you should be able to have PDFs, even with images that bulky, that come in under 5MB.

I wasn't having any trouble, but I was just concerned that the filesize was too big, especially if I upload a couple dozen decks. I was more worried about the precedent it might set if other people were to also upload large size decks, etc.

As to the programs, I'm using GIMP to create the card images, and I'm also using GIMP to do the layouts. Then, within GIMP I am using a PDF print driver (CutePDF) to create the pdfs images...and since I haven't figured out how to combine multiple images into a multi-page document in GIMP...I am then using Adolix to combine each PDF page into one larger PDF document. Prior to creating the PDF, I am not doing any image compressing outside of saving the original images as a jpeg format (some of the images start as TIFF or PNG).

CutePDF is a printer driver PDF output thing, right? If so there should be options somewhere (possibly in the printer setup menu) that will help you dictate compression settings.

CutePDF has no such options (if it does, I can't find them). I also tried downloading PDF995, and it's setup the same way... Now, I can adjust the DPI print settings down from 300 to 144, but that has no effect on filesize. If there's a way to change compression settings with these PDF drivers, I'm stumped as to how to do it.

Photoshop for me does the same thing, Scott. You cannot combine pages of PDFs, each has to be their own image, unfortuately. However, why then would you want to make them PDF files and not JPEG files? Are the PDF files smaller?
