The other Wutke, bird strike survivor

If anyone has seen or read this story and was wondering, the pilot Roger Wutke is my brother. Dude's got nerves of steel -- I can't imagine having the cool to keep control of, let alone land safely, an aircraft in that state.

Incredible! Thank God your brother made it out of that alive. Absolutely amazing. Nice story. I'm going to link all of my fellow teachers into this article and encourage them to have their students do some writing about what it must have been like for your brother. As far as drawing pictures of what happened, well, that would end a kid up at the school shrink's door ASAP!

Oh, one last thing, I know what kind of bird it was that hit your brother's plane, a dead bird. I can't believe the reporter missed that one. Let's just hope it was not some rare bird. PITA would make your brother's life miserable if it was found to be an endangered species.

That is insane! I'm glad your brother is ok. I can't even imagine what that must have been like.

Not to belittle your brother's harrowing experience, but really, shouldn't we be thanking the glasses?

Not trying to get preachy, I'm also not going to be shy about admitting that I have no doubt that it was Divine providence that led him to be wearing his glasses that day rather that his contacts.

Cool interview. Amazing landing. If it would have happend in cold wether, your brother would have either died or ended up looking like Michael Jackson! How many stiches were put into his head?

A buddy of mine in the army had a friend who was fortunately wearing his safety goggles while driving a 2 1/2 ton army truck when something made the windshield explode. His goggles saved his life as his eyes were protected from shattered glass.
